ITWBN: Get To Know Me

get to know me tag

As part of the Into The West Blogger Network, this week I’m writing up an article all about myself. Usually I keep the focus on what is going on on the catwalk or at the latest fashion events, which is why turning the tables and writing about myself is definitely something a little different!

This week’s challenge is in aid of the ITWBN meet-up happening on April 12 in the G Hotel in Galway city. Just like every other Galway blogging event, it’ll be filled with fun, friends and interesting conversation. My best mate Babs of BabsScribbles will be coming up for the occasion (which I’m SO excited for) and we’ll all be getting dolled up to have some fashion talk and some business card swapping!

So onto me. The challenge is for me to tell you 10 things about myself. I don’t know about you but I find these things really difficult – like those Bebo quizzes we all used to fill out years ago. Finding 10 interesting facts about yourself that will cover both fashion and my personal life makes me feel ill because who knows what other people actually find interesting? So here are 10 things about me that people might/might not know and we’ll go from there! I’ve picked questions from other blogs just to help me out!

What Started Your Career In Fashion Blogging?

I always wanted to be a lawyer when I was younger and never even considered writing as a career. After putting down Journalism on my forms on a whim, I got into the course in University of Limerick and never looked back. However, it wasn’t until my second year that I considered fashion – after writing an article for the college newspaper as a favour, I turned out to love doing it and five months later, I was the fashion editor of the paper. Since then, that’s been the only career in my mind and the one I intend to follow!

What Is Your Favourite Colour?

I adore the colour red – I think it is one of those colours that embodies confidence and strength in a woman and every woman should own at least one item of red clothing. But I never actually wear it myself as I don’t think it suits my skin tone – leaning more towards deep blues and dark green. I do make up for it by wearing lashings of red lipstick though so I suppose I do incorporate it in there somewhere!

get to know me

If You Won The Lotto Tonight, What Would You Buy?

I don’t think I’d go too mad to be honest. I’d get practical things like driving lessons and probably a house and then save some for the future. Major shopping trip first obviously!

What Kind Of Style Do You Like?

I chop and change depending on my mood. One day I want to wear sleek monochrome and others i love throwing in splashes of colour. I don’t really have a particular style but I do like to look and feel powerful in my clothes so wearing something that suits me gives me a real pick-me-up!

Have You Ever Had An Operation?

Yes, I’ve had three! One after a bike accident when I was 7 to stitch my chin back together and two on my nose! Awful rock and roll for someone that is overly cautious!

What Inspires You?

The idea that you can do a job that you love, be financially secure from a little hard work. I’m constantly working towards my goal of being a fashion journalist, doing everything from networking with people to freelancing for different publications and I’ll continue to do it until I reach that goal. Never give up and all that!

What Is Your Make-Up Secret?

I have a couple of different products I couldn’t live without! Benefit Boi-ing concealer covers all those blemishes for days that I’m just not arsed putting on make-up. Also it cover my tattoo when necessary! My Urban Decay Naked 2 palette is also AMAZING, I use it every day whether it’s work or a night out and the black shade is perfect as an eyeliner!

How Many Places Have You Lived?

Tons! I grew up in London and moved to Tipperary, Ireland when I was 9. I moved to Limerick to go to uni, lived in Budapest for Study Abroad for six months and moved to Galway last year! I’m heading back to London in a few months and hopefully then I’ll stick to one place for a while!

What Is Your Guilty Pleasure?

Crap TV and my pyjamas! I spend so much time on the computer on my site Intrigue.ie and blogging for sites that sometimes I love to sit on the sofa and chill out with some terrible reality show! You name it, I’ve probably watched it!

What Are Your Hobbies?

I dunno if I have that many hobbies. Writing and editing takes up a lot of my time! I do love reading, hanging out with friends, going out for the day with Brian, relaxing with some music, shopping and I suppose writing!

Until then.

The Best Dressed of the Oscars 2014

Was anyone else a little bored last night watching the red carpet? I’ve been looking forward to the Oscars since the award season began, hoping for something a little fresh and different, yet last night handed me no great surprises in the style department. Those women who always dress well did so but there were no outfits that filled me with dread or anything noteworthy so I’ve decided to leave worst-dressed out of today’s post. There were too many dresses that just bored me! However, the night wasn’t completely lacking – there were a few fabulous gowns by some of the usual suspects and of course, some funny moments that make the Oscars so much fun to follow.

I have left a couple of people off this list that people have been raving about – Jennifer Lawrence and Kerry Washington – for obvious reasons, I didn’t like their style. J-Law wore a beautiful Dior dress (surprise surprise) and she looked lovely but I’m getting so bored of the same look from her all the time and was hoping for something different. Kerry Washington’s maternity style was a miss this time and made her look a lot bigger than she is – not the aim when you’re pregnant, I imagine! Nonetheless, I have compiled a list of my favourites so enjoy and don’t forget to tell me your favourites!

oscars 2014

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen, Charlize Theron in Dior, Amy Adams in Gucci and Julie Roberts in Givenchy

Many of the Oscar dresses looked exactly the same, using light and airy shades of cream. However these ladies stepped out of the mould and chose dresses that were darker. The style of the dress is quite similar, however the cuts and fabrics made each starlet stand out. Sandra Bullock really won this award season with her style, from that green Lanvin gown at the SAG Awards to the Prabal Gurung colour-block number at the Golden Globes. This Alexander McQueen dress was no different and gave her a regal air. Charlize Theron was rightly named one of the best-dressed of the night in this fantastic Dior gown. In past years, she has taken to wearing John Galliano but this works and flatters every curve. By now, you’ll probably know I don’t like Amy Adams – however, her style choices this year have impressed me and this Gucci makes her figure look sensational. She lost out on the Best Actress gong along with Sandra Bullock but both won major style points. This Givenchy gown is phenomenal on Julia Roberts, who was up for Best Supporting Actress, and definitely gave me some dress envy. The colour, cut, fabric; everything was working here and her simple up-do finished the look off perfectly.

oscars 2014

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive, Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace, Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra and Kristen Bell in Roberto Cavalli

There were so many similar dresses on the night, I found that the light-coloured dresses all blended into one. These ladies stood out for me because their style and confidence was just exceptional and there was something a little different about these gowns. Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett stunned in this elegant yet fun Armani Prive with floral embellishment. Her simple hairstyle and jewellery let the dress do the talking and it certainly did that! Kate Hudson looked phenomenal in this white Atelier Versace gown that flattered every curve and kept the critics talking about her. We all know Jenna Dewan-Tatum always has the best arm-candy in the form of Channing Tatum but this Reem Acra number let her stand out on her own and the dress is incredibly beautiful without being too much. Kristen Bell is always great entertainment and I love her and her husband Dax as a couple. Last night she impressed me in this fabulous Roberto Cavalli dress teamed with simple hair and make-up. Who’d have thought she just had a baby?

oscars 2014

Kristen Chenoweth in Roberto Cavalli and Emma Watson in Vera Wang

Metallics was a big trend on the red carpet this season but these are the only two metallic dresses I liked from the Oscars. Other A-Listers like Jessica Biel tried and – in my opinion – failed. Kristen Chenoweth looks gorgeous in this Roberto Cavalli gown (a popular designer this event) and managed to pull off metallic without looking like the Oscar statue. Her pixie cut and minimal jewellery gave this dress all the attention it needed – I wouldn’t have done anything different. I have so much love for Emma Watson and she cannot put a foot wrong when it comes to fashion. This Vera Wang is both classy and sexy, something that Emma seems to look for in a dress and always pulls it off!

oscars 2014

Lupita Nyong’o in Prada

The deserving Best Supporting Actress winner was also the best dressed on the night. Lupita Nyong’o has been the talk of Hollywood this award season – both as a breakout star and a style icon. This being her first film role hasn’t phased her in the slightest and she has eased into the red carpet lifestyle with ease. This Prada gown follows in a long line of amazing designer gowns that she has made her own and the colour is beautiful against her dark skin tone. I probably would’ve left the hairband at home though.

Here are some of my favourite moments from the selfie seen round the world to Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing all of U2. Moments like this make the Oscars go from stuffy award ceremony to a party with a serious amount of fun!

The Selfie Seen Round The World

anigif_enhanced-8583-1393824747-10

The most star-studded selfie you’ll ever see – tweeted by Ellen at the Oscars last night. This picture has now broken world records, being retweeted over two million times by last count! I want in on this!

These two presenting – because I want them to magically become a couple!

oscars 2014

Because Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing U2 was possibly the funniest thing ever!

oscars 2014

And more photo-bombing from the gorgeous Jared Leto who also won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.

oscars 2014

These two being extremely cute – adorable couple alert. Also the picture below with Lupita really made me laugh!

Gorgeous photos like this make the Oscars for me. These portraits were taken at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night by photographer Mark Seliger and captured the essence of the Oscars in his pop-up studio. Check out some of his fantastic photographs here and look at how beautiful Zooey Deschanel and Lupita Nyong’o are!

NYFW

IN the blink of an eye, the first instalment of Fashion Week season has come and gone before we’d even realised it had begun. We’ve been waiting six months for the fash-pack gossip to descend onto our newsfeeds and New York Fashion Week did not disappoint. It seems like we haven’t even gotten to experience Spring yet and we’re anticipating the Autumn/Winter trends…aren’t we lucky that it’s still cold outside so we can get a head start on the next season’s trends?

nyfw

The clear theme this NYFW was androgyny…and lots of it. Not only did designers such as Alexander Wang and Jason Wu keep it masculine for Autumn/Winter 2014-15 but also there was some very unexpected androgyny from feminine-orientated designers like Victoria Beckham and celebrity-favourite Monique Lhuillier. Their use of darker colours, sharper lines and straighter cuts gave the audience the change they had been looking for and there wasn’t one structured midi dress on the VB catwalk. Imagine that!

nyfw

As always with the A/W collections, the hues get a lot darker. But this year, the majority of the designers played safe with various shades of black, grey and navy. Vera Wang in particular stuck with an all-black collection that varied in patterns to make it stand out from the pack. There was a distinct lack of girly fabrics and colours, instead opting for heavier fabrics such as velvet, wool, PVC and leather – a possible reflection of the terrible weather that plagued New York City in the interim and the clothing the ‘frow’ were sporting.

nyfw

One of my favourite shows of New York Fashion Week was definitely Alice + Olivia. Amazing is the only word. I do love a collection that screams gothic fairy tale and this, like vintage Christian Dior (under Galliano, of course) fits the bill. The use of different colours and textures made the collection really stand out and the forbidden forest theme really worked with the designs.

nyfw

Another designer that hit the headlines this NYFW was Marc Jacobs. The world’s eyes were on his debut collection after leaving Louis Vuitton and he didn’t disappoint. Kendall Jenner – little sister of the infamous Kim Kardashian – stole the show on the catwalk with her sheer top and showed that one of the Kardashian/Jenner family could make it into the fashion world without reality show success. Jacobs’ whole collection had an ethereal sixties vibe to it and he stayed away from the darker colours, favouring instead muted blues, camel, beige and creams. Some of the later pieces had a slight Daenerys from ‘Game of Thrones’ style to them – conjuring thoughts of wearing these floaty creations on a hot beach somewhere far away.

nyfw

The Spring/Summer collections this year didn’t hold back in their colour palette and the subsequent season will do just the opposite: the darker, the better. Any colour or floral print should be taken with a pinch of salt and most pieces had that androgynous twist. There was a modern functionality about most of the collections shown at New York Fashion Week – a theme I imagine will run through each subsequent week. Already looking forward to seeing the London Fashion Week style – who’s with me?

Best Moments Of The Grammys 2014

The Grammys last night were everything short of amazing. I wasn’t able to catch the action straight away so was resigned to watch the fashion highlights and the action unfold on other sites like Twitter where everyone was on about the shocks of the night. I was very much disappointed! There is only a handful of dresses that I had any opinion about whatsoever…and that’s not a good thing! So here are a few of my favourite moments from the Grammys (style and otherwise) 2014!

grammys 2014

Giuliana Rancic in Alex Perry, Ariana Grande in Dolce & Gabbana and Tamar Braxton

The bright dresses of the night really stood out and there were a few lovely choices. Giuliana Rancic has been getting it so right this award season and this orange Alex Perry gown is no different. The coral dress gives her a really beautiful shape and it was a solid choice to wear orange. Ariana Grande looked adorable as ever in a black floral Dolce & Gabbana gown that was a gorgeous, vintage style on her and the floral pattern gave it that real 50s vibe. Nominee Tamar Braxton looked amazing in that figure-hugging red gown that everyone has been talking about and I’m now coveting this gown!

grammys

Sarah Hyland in Emilio Pucci, Taylor Swift in Gucci Premiere and Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka

Monochrome and metallics were recurring themes…AGAIN! However, this time things were a little different and the dresses were a little bit special. Sarah Hyland looked gorgeous in a Emilio Pucci gown that was very reminiscent of her age and its short flirty length made her look great! I hate to say it but Taylor Swift looked phenomenal in this Gucci Premiere gown, it suits her down to the ground and the metallic hue is bang on trend. Kelly Osbourne looked gorgeous in this caped Badgley Mischka dress and the embellished shoulders were a genius idea for her body shape.

grammys 2014

Sara Bareilles in Blumarine, Alicia Keys in Armani Prive, Anna Kendrick in Azzaro, Rita Ora in Lanvin and Katy Perry in Valentino Couture

As always, there are a few fashion misses. Sara Bareilles looked a little like Big Bird in this Blumarine gown, it might work if the dress was all one length but the train just threw this piece off. Alicia Keys was spot on with the colour of her Armani Prive gown but the shape didn’t flatter her figure the best it could and the slit was too low. Anna Kendrick’s Azzaro gown was both too safe and too risky at the same time – the colour was drab but her cleavage was stuffed into it! Rita Ora’s Lanvin gown looked like a bad Quality Street wrapper but I’ll give her extra points for how hot Calvin Harris looked! Katy Perry’s Valentino Couture dress was a risk worth taking but the colour and cut didn’t suit her at all. A deeper colour would have been a much better choice!

Pharrell and his magic hat!

Pharrell and his magic hat!

Not a particularly great fashion statement but this hat took over the Grammys. Not only was everyone talking about it but the hat even got its own Twitter account. I’m not quite sure whether he was trying to look like a Canadian Mountie or Yogi Bear but this ensemble did give me a giggle. Also loved the really poignant moment during Macklemore’s song ‘Same Love‘ where 33 couples – both straight and gay – were married by Queen Latifah…very emotional but from some of the comments made, the world still has a long way to go in terms of same-sex marriage! This world, huh!

Until next time,

The Golden Globes 2014: Fashion Hits and Misses

It’s the start of award season again and one of my favourite times of the year for celebrity fashion (after the Met Gala of course). The Golden Globes are a breath of fresh air fashion-wise; everyone is in their stride getting ready for the SAG awards and the Oscars but it’s still the first award ceremony in the bunch so we’re not getting that celebrity ennui already! Last year was so tedious in terms of real style, the boredom of the colours and same cuts on every celebrity set in very quickly and we cried out for something a little bit different. Finally, we got it. The Golden Globes 2014 were full of daring and bold choices which made fashion lovers everywhere squeal with delight. I had my favourites of course so I’ve written down my favourites and what styles we’ve been seeing on some of the world’s most famous!

Bright Blues/Greens

Golden Globes

Caitlin Fitzgerald in Emilia Wickstead, Helen Mirren in Jenny Packham and Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein

Bold colours were a very big trend on the red carpet this year at the Golden Globes and these three ladies had some of the best style by far. Caitlin Fitzgerald’s Emilia Wickstead dress has been named by many companies as the dress of the night and she was definitely flying the British flag for fashion. Helen Mirren looked fabulous in Jenny Packham and the colours complemented her without looking too young for her. This seamless Calvin Klein gown looked beautiful on Reese Witherspoon teamed with Harry Winston jewellery and her haircut was extremely flattering.

Reds

golden globes

Emma Watson in Dior Couture, Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez

I do love a vibrant red; anyone that has looked at my lipstick collection could tell you that. However there were some fantastically stunning red outfits at the Golden Globes and these were three of my favourite! Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge Emma Watson fan and her style never fails to disappoint. This Dior Couture ensemble is genius, ensuring she is comfortable and warm in her trousers while still being ahead of trend and daring in the completely backless dress. Lupita Nyong’o caused waves with her Ralph Lauren dress with a futuristic style cape that is very en vogue. The colour of her dress complemented her complexion perfectly and gave her a great glow. Julia Louis-Dreyfus looked stunning in her Narciso Rodriguez gown and those arms, wow! You can tell how much work she’s done to look amazing in that dress and I applaud her for that!

Metallics

golden globes

Emilia Clarke in Proenza Schouler, Emma Thompson in vintage Lanvin, Kate Mara in J. Mendal, Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad and Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta

Emilia Clarke looked ever the goddess in Proenza Schouler and after watching her in Game of Thrones, I adore her original brunette colour! She accessorised that with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and a Baird & Baird clutch, not too shabby! Emma Thompson, despite having a dodgy blowout, was fabulous in gold and black metallic vintage Lanvin and her outfit wasn’t too young for her, which can be the trouble sometimes with older actresses at award ceremonies! This blonde is a gorgeous look on Kate Mara and the translucent sheen on her J. Mendal dress makes is look so expensive. Kate Beckinsale has been getting a lot of negative feedback on her dress but personally I think she looks so beautiful and the cut of the Zuhair Murad dress gives her an enviable hourglass figure. One of my favourite Downton Abbey actresses Michelle Dockery always seems to get her fashion choices spot on and this Oscar de la Renta gown is spot on. With simple accessories, this look compliments her figure and places her high on the style stakes.

Multi-Coloured

Golden Globes

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting in Rani Zakhem and Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung

Julie Bowen gets it right almost every time and this dress is no exception. The colour blocking on this Carolina Herrera is so flattering and the colours are a beautiful hue for her skin tone. The newly married Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting looked gorgeous in a vintage-looking floral Rani Zakhem gown with Jimmy Choo accessories. Her love for pink gowns is obvious by now but this gave a little bit of a different twist to her style. Another colour-blocking fashion choice was made by Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung. Again, this dress divided critics but Sandra looks beautiful and chose the right hairstyle for this outfit. This looks a sure sign that colour-blocking could be in this season!

Black

golden globes

Leslie Mann in Dolce & Gabbana, Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé and Emma Roberts in Lanvin

Black is always a good colour, especially for award ceremonies in January. It’s a flattering colour and all these women have chosen hourglass silhouettes to flatter their shapes further. Leslie Mann delighted the critics in her lace Dolce & Gabbana gown, proving that she will never age! Cate Blanchett, winner of ‘Best Actress’ award won our adoration for this Armani Privé dress teamed with some Chopard jewellery. Newly engaged Emma Roberts dazzled in a Lanvin fishtail gown.

Cream/White

Golden Globes

Laura Carmichael in Viktor & Rolf, Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta and Margot Robbie in Gucci

Cream and white is always a big trend coming into the Spring/Summer season but it’s surprising that these colours were worn so much in the cold weather. However these three ladies killed the pale trend and they were bold choices. Downton Abbey‘s Laura Carmichael looked gorgeous in a Viktor & Rolf column dress and that little monochrome detail gave it a bit of an edge. Zooey Deschanel’s Oscar de la Renta gown suited her like a dream and the New Girl star’s nude shoes and daisy manicure were gorgeous. Margot Robbie of nominated film The Wolf of Wall Street looked beautiful in her white Gucci gown with emerald detailing; it’s just a shame her hair was so manicured, looser would have been better!

Men

golden globes

Idris Elba, Chris Pine in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, Usher in Calvin Klein and Bradley Cooper in Tom Ford

These gentlemen were definitely the pick of the bunch when it come to looking sophisticated and dapper on the red carpet. With the lack of options for men for a black tie event, these actors stood out from the crowd and made their own bolder fashion titles. Hats off to Usher who’s plum Calvin Klein suit really stood out and nominee Idris Elba who went for a more casual look with no tie.

Pregnancy Fashion

golden globes

Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhuillier, Olivia Wilde in Gucci and Kerry Washington in Balenciaga

Pregnancy is big in Hollywood at the moment (I’m not joking) and we’re constantly watching to see what style these pregnant ladies are sporting. I’m not a huge fan of Barrymore’s dress in general but as a maternity outfit, this works. It’s vaguely reminiscent of Kim Kardashian’s Givenchy dress at the Met Gala but much more flattering! Olivia Wilde looks phenomenal in this green sparkly Gucci dress and it’s a dress that can be worn again when she has had her baby. Win win! Kerry Washington’s Balenciaga dress is extremely beautiful and the colour looks great on her. The pregnancy fashion has been in the public eye a lot more thanks to Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton and these ladies haven’t let the side down. Looking forward to seeing them at the SAG awards!

Fashion Misses

golden globes

Amy Adams in Valentino, Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Lena Dunham in Zac Posen and Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

Sometimes there are some fashion misses at these events and these are my picks. I know that it’s everyone’s opinion and a lot of people will love these dresses but I just can’t like them. I’m not a fan of Amy Adams at all but I find this Valentino dress really washes her out. The colour for me is all wrong and this wouldn’t be the first choice for a redhead; blue or green would be better. Heidi Klum’s Marchesa dress is alright but the choker and the frumpy haircut are just too much. This outfit makes her look much older than she is which is a real shame. Lena Dunham’s Zac Posen outfit has definitely divided people but I think it’s just that little bit too clingy and that little bit too yellow for my liking. Jennifer Lawrence can usually do no wrong in my eyes but this dress just looks like a cotton wool bud. She’s a slave for Dior but this particular gown does nothing for her.

Anyone else looking forward to the SAG awards? I can’t wait to watch all the glamour!

Until then,

L’Oreal Gift Basket Goodies

So a few people have asked me what I got in my big basket of L’Oreal goodies at Style and The City last week so I said I’d give a little rundown on what I got in my big prize! I’ve never really used L’Oreal products before – not that I don’t want to, just never taken the opportunity! Cos my skin is so delicate a.k.a. a nightmare, I usually stick to my old faithful MAC foundation and Benefit products but I’m always willing to try something new and this basket of treats was the perfect motivation!

l'oreal

The products I don’t/can’t use will be put up as a giveaway either on the blog here or on my site Intrigue.ie so keep an eye out for that!

L’Oreal EverPure Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner

l'oreal

L’Oreal EverPure Shampoo and Conditioner

I’m always really excited to try new shampoo and conditioner – I’ve got quite long thick hair and it’s difficult to keep it under control sometimes! Because my hair can get quite greasy and dry, I need cream-based shampoos so this EverPure shampoo is perfect and it smells amazing! What’s great is that it is also for coloured hair which is extra protection I definitely for my ever-changing hair! There are botanical oils, rosemary and mint in this particular set and you can definitely smell that little kick in it!

L’Oreal Preference Colour Ombres in Copper Ombre

l'oreal

L’Oreal Preference Colour Ombres in Copper Ombre

I hate having this temptation in my house because I’ve just got my hair back to its natural colour. Although I would love to try this colour, it’s taken me so long to get back to my original dark brown colour so I think this dye may be going in the giveaway pile, purely so I can get rid of temptation!

L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray and L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

l'oreal

L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray and L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

I love both these products and delighted I got them in the basket! The hairspray is a lifesaver for so many reasons. I always use it on my face on a night out (I know it’s a terrible habit – never try it!) and it keeps your make-up on perfectly all night! The Extraordinary Oil is fantastic and I use it on the dry ends in my hair. When your hair is as long and thick as mine, it’s very easy for split and dry ends to form. Apart from keeping your ends trimmed regularly, the only thing you can do is treat your ends with a product like this and it’ll keep your hair placated! I need to make more effort with my hair treatment so this is just the ticket for me!

L’Oreal Revitalift Laser Renew Creams

l'oreal

L’Oreal Revitalift Laser Renew Creams

I’ve already decided that these would be going towards a Christmas present so I won’t be using these at all but they look fantastic and I’ve heard great things about them! I got the Revitalift Laser Renew Anti-Ageing MoisturiserRevitalift Laser Renew Anti-Ageing Night Cream Mask and Revitalift Laser Renew Anti-Ageing Super Serum. I’m hoping the receiver of these lovely gifts will be very happy with them!

L’Oreal Skin Perfection Purifying Gel Wash

So as I’ve mentioned on the blog before, I’ve got crazy sensitive skin so it’s always interesting to get new skincare products. From the first time I tried this I was hooked. It made my skin feel great and even though it didn’t have a scrub in it, it got rid of all my dead and sensitive skin which is just what I wanted! Also the smell is amazing and as I’ve been getting early mornings in work, it’s been waking me up properly with the minty smell!

L’Oreal Make-Up Products

There were quite a few make-up products in the basket too which was fantastic! Like I said, I love playing around with new products and this is the way to do it! First off is the False Lash Telescopic Mascara in Magnetic Black. I always love playing up my eye make-up and since trying this, I’ve fallen in love with it. It doesn’t beat They’re Real or Bad Gal by Benefit (my all-time favourite mascaras) but it’s a great finish and barely any clumps! The True Match Mineral Powder foundation in Golden Ivory will be going in the Giveaway set – I can’t use powder foundation as my skin is so dry but I’m sure there will be some lovely benefactors out there who will gladly use it! The Color Riche lipstick in Metallic Coral is a new colour for me but it’s nice to try a pink instead of red all the time. The Super Liner in Intense Black is also a new product for me – I’m usually used to using pencils instead of a felt tip liner but I’ve tried it a couple of times and I’m happy enough with the results. It probably wouldn’t be my first choice to buy, I prefer the smudginess of the eye pencil but this does give a precise line! The Color Riche eyeshadow is way out of my colour range so I’ll be giving it to a loving home – the pinks, purples and yellows would wash my skin out but someone with a knack for make-up application should be happy with it!

Color Riche Le Nail Art

These nail wraps are really cute and I love the colour but might stick these in the giveaway bag too – I’m terrible at all things nails and I’d just waste them! They’re really shiny and lovely so whoever gets these is very lucky!

Now, I’m off, I have work every day until Christmas Day and I need every ounce of relaxation that I can get this evening! I’m thinking of doing a ‘favourites’ post – chatting about all things make-up and all the products I use and even some recommendations. What do you all think?

Until then,

Style In The City

Last week I headed to Style in The City with a few blogger friends – Seana from Innocent Illusion, Meghan from Contour and Cashmere and Jess from The Daily Shift/Beautiful Health. The event was hosted by Rebecca from Bec Boop Fashionista World, Amber Doyle from the Stock Exchange venue and Sinead from Cotton Face Vintage – a vintage store I’ve talked a lot about before. The evening was only €5 and was in aid of two fantastic charities – Western Alzheimer’s and Jigsaw Galway, a charity I’ll actually working with closely in the New Year(more to follow on that). It was a great night chatting to other bloggers and fashion lovers and was definitely great to dress up and have fun with some friends.

We got some drinks and walked around the upstairs shopping area which was full of pop-up boutiques and salons. I picked up my faux fur collar from Cotton Face Vintage and the other ladies picked up some goodies from PIA Boutique and Cotton Face Vintage. We also got 25% off vouchers from Peter Mark which I’m very excited to use in the New Year (i love a treat)! After that, we got a perfect seat for the fashion show and caught up before seeing all the great fashion. The fashion show was full of great fashions from Born Clothing (I wore on of their pieces on the night), Portobello Boutique, Public Romance and Cotton Face Vintage. It was fantastic to see so many local businesses and stores getting involved in the show and so many others sponsored great prizes for the raffle.

The fantastic stuff I got in my L’Oreal hamper!

After the show the raffle was on and there were some great prizes to be won from companies such as Urban Decay, Therapie Clinics, Peter Mark, L’Oreal and Million Dollar Secrets. Meghan won a voucher for Therapie and Seana won a bag of Lancome goodies! I bought a ticket at the last second and managed to bag myself a huge hamper of L’Oreal goodies! My luck for winning continues! We had a great night and it was fantastic to see other familiar bloggers again such Robin from Jewel Studded Grunge, Meghan from MeghanMode, Sinead from Yummy Mummy FL and Aisling from Pale Girl! Looking forward to the next event already! I’ll put a post up on my fabulous L’Oreal hamper in a few days and all the goodies I got in it!

Until then,
