ITWBN: Get To Know Me

get to know me tag

As part of the Into The West Blogger Network, this week I’m writing up an article all about myself. Usually I keep the focus on what is going on on the catwalk or at the latest fashion events, which is why turning the tables and writing about myself is definitely something a little different!

This week’s challenge is in aid of the ITWBN meet-up happening on April 12 in the G Hotel in Galway city. Just like every other Galway blogging event, it’ll be filled with fun, friends and interesting conversation. My best mate Babs of BabsScribbles will be coming up for the occasion (which I’m SO excited for) and we’ll all be getting dolled up to have some fashion talk and some business card swapping!

So onto me. The challenge is for me to tell you 10 things about myself. I don’t know about you but I find these things really difficult – like those Bebo quizzes we all used to fill out years ago. Finding 10 interesting facts about yourself that will cover both fashion and my personal life makes me feel ill because who knows what other people actually find interesting? So here are 10 things about me that people might/might not know and we’ll go from there! I’ve picked questions from other blogs just to help me out!

What Started Your Career In Fashion Blogging?

I always wanted to be a lawyer when I was younger and never even considered writing as a career. After putting down Journalism on my forms on a whim, I got into the course in University of Limerick and never looked back. However, it wasn’t until my second year that I considered fashion – after writing an article for the college newspaper as a favour, I turned out to love doing it and five months later, I was the fashion editor of the paper. Since then, that’s been the only career in my mind and the one I intend to follow!

What Is Your Favourite Colour?

I adore the colour red – I think it is one of those colours that embodies confidence and strength in a woman and every woman should own at least one item of red clothing. But I never actually wear it myself as I don’t think it suits my skin tone – leaning more towards deep blues and dark green. I do make up for it by wearing lashings of red lipstick though so I suppose I do incorporate it in there somewhere!

If You Won The Lotto Tonight, What Would You Buy?

I don’t think I’d go too mad to be honest. I’d get practical things like driving lessons and probably a house and then save some for the future. Major shopping trip first obviously!

What Kind Of Style Do You Like?

I chop and change depending on my mood. One day I want to wear sleek monochrome and others i love throwing in splashes of colour. I don’t really have a particular style but I do like to look and feel powerful in my clothes so wearing something that suits me gives me a real pick-me-up!

Have You Ever Had An Operation?

Yes, I’ve had three! One after a bike accident when I was 7 to stitch my chin back together and two on my nose! Awful rock and roll for someone that is overly cautious!

What Inspires You?

The idea that you can do a job that you love, be financially secure from a little hard work. I’m constantly working towards my goal of being a fashion journalist, doing everything from networking with people to freelancing for different publications and I’ll continue to do it until I reach that goal. Never give up and all that!

What Is Your Make-Up Secret?

I have a couple of different products I couldn’t live without! Benefit Boi-ing concealer covers all those blemishes for days that I’m just not arsed putting on make-up. Also it cover my tattoo when necessary! My Urban Decay Naked 2 palette is also AMAZING, I use it every day whether it’s work or a night out and the black shade is perfect as an eyeliner!

How Many Places Have You Lived?

Tons! I grew up in London and moved to Tipperary, Ireland when I was 9. I moved to Limerick to go to uni, lived in Budapest for Study Abroad for six months and moved to Galway last year! I’m heading back to London in a few months and hopefully then I’ll stick to one place for a while!

What Is Your Guilty Pleasure?

Crap TV and my pyjamas! I spend so much time on the computer on my site Intrigue.ie and blogging for sites that sometimes I love to sit on the sofa and chill out with some terrible reality show! You name it, I’ve probably watched it!

What Are Your Hobbies?

I dunno if I have that many hobbies. Writing and editing takes up a lot of my time! I do love reading, hanging out with friends, going out for the day with Brian, relaxing with some music, shopping and I suppose writing!

Until then.

Keep Styling,

Em

ITWBN: My Letter To Santa

Dear Santa,

Hope you’re keeping well! I know it’s been a while since we’ve had a proper chat, I know you’re so busy these controlling those pesky elves so I won’t take up too much of your precious times with my ramblings! I’ve been mostly good this year – a little too much complaining but you know me – so here is hoping I get nice presents! So let’s get down to business! It’s been really difficult to decide what I want this year to be honest, I’m so thankful for everything I have at the moment; a great boyfriend, great friends, a lovely flat and a big move abroad on the horizon. I’m happy in my life – I know what I want to do in the future, I’m intelligent and I have ambition so I’m looking forward to moving to London and . So all I want are a couple of bits that I’ve been wanting for a while, I’m sure your elves will be great at rustling me up a couple of fashion and beauty bits! So here are three of the things I’m looking for for Christmas this year!

Michael Kors Tote

I’m not picky at all obviously! I’ve wanted a Michael Kors bag for ages upon ages and I’m hoping sometime in the future I’ll own one! Hint hint much. Michael Kors has the ability to make fabulous designer bags at reasonable enough designer prices (compared to other brands) and they are really beautiful! They come in fabulous colours and I’m coveting quite a few different styles!

Babyliss Hair Curler

I’m constantly on the search for items to help me with my hair. I’ve got a mane of thick brown hair that can’t decide if it’s straight or curly and I’m always searching for tools to help me tame my hair properly. My trusty GHD helps me straighten it but I need a proper curler that won’t take too much effort! When in Peter Mark recently, the stylist curled my hair with a Babyliss curler and for the first time, it actually fell right and stayed in my hair. Very exciting for me! This particular curler is extremely reasonable so even if you can’t, Santa, I’ll hopefully be able to get it myself in the sales!

A Holiday

It’s been over a year since I have been on holiday and I’m definitely getting the itch! We’re moving to London in six months and I’m really excited to start again somewhere new but I would love to get a weekend or a few days away somewhere! It’s always fun to plan a trip and and I would love to get to London or Paris for a weekend over Christmas. I always find Christmas such a romantic time of year (such a cliche, right) and I would love to jet away with Brian to Paris for a few days before the madness of Christmas starts! It’s going to be a pretty boring Christmas this year as I’m working almost every day except Christmas Day and Brian has been studying non-stop. So Santa, if you could think of a way to make Christmas more fun for us, give me a buzz and let me know!

ITWBN

So let me know what you think, Santa, drop me a text and let me know what the story is! The entire Urban Outfitters or Topshop store stock would fantastic but I shouldn’t ask for too much, should I?!

Until then,

ITWBN: The Best Style in Winter is Warmth

As part of the new Into The West Bloggers Network, I’ve written up some of the pieces I love and covet to get me through the cold winter weather in Galway! There is such a need for a good cosy winter coat this year and I’ve really been wanting coats in bright eye-catching colours! I’ll definitely be investing in one or two of these when I’m paid! I find the best deals on coats are always online, it’s unbelievable what deals you can get when you go searching online. Usually I stick to ASOS and Missguided when I do my online clothes shopping but recently I’ve been searching further afield and been exploring sites like Sheinside.com for something a little different, which the site certainly has.

Winter boots are completely necessary at the moment and the more lined the better! I have loads of winter boots and I usually live in my Ugg boots during the winter months, teamed with tights and dresses/skirts. I’m in the market for a pair of brown boots and a pair of over-the-knee boots so have been looking around everywhere for some options! Also it’s always a good idea to have a stylish pair of sneakers to run around doing those Christmas-related jobs! These are some of my favourite picks for the cold months!

My other winter essential is a good warm hat…or preferably several of them! It’s necessary to keep your ears warm in this weather and there are so many different fabrics and shapes to choose from. I’m lucky to have a head that can wear most kinds of hats and I have different styles from bowler hats to felt hats, fur Russian-style hats to animal-shaped hats. I love hat shopping and since my hair has grown, I love styling my hair around hats! Nothing nicer than nicely curled hair under a hat!

Make sure you grab your warm winter coats and accessories cos it’s getting very cold out there! These are my favourite wardrobe pieces to keep me toasty warm in the winter and hopefully you’ll be just as toasty warm with these pieces!
