MFW

Milan Fashion Week always seems the most high fashion of the fashion week season. From the street style to the frow to the runway, this city really is the European fashion capital from head-to-toe. As expected, the high-end design houses of Milan such as Prada, Gucci and Versace gave us something that New York and London didn’t: couture mixed with wearable designs.

milan fashion week

Gucci gave us a bright and airy collection that seemed a little out of place for A/W but was lovely all the same. The designs were displayed in a number of pastel and subtle shades in a move that is usually reserved for springtime collections. The cuts and designs were simple and elegant, providing us with aspirations for a gorgeous wardrobe. Prada seemed to do exactly the opposite – veering towards fabrics, colours and patterns that were heavier and darker. Furs, silks and wools were displayed in deep reds, navy and black and Miuccia Prada made sure we were set for the inevitable cool winter.

milan fashion week

Emporio Armani went back to basics and focused on the suit and the little black dress. There was an emphasis on tailoring and modernising the basic suit – making it durable and wearable for the modern woman, although there was a slight hint of Charlie Chaplin surrounding some of the suits. There were some beautiful tailored dresses that Audrey Hepburn would be proud of and the entire collection screamed class and elegance – another win for Giorgio Armani.

milan fashion week

Like Gucci, Versace played around with colour but used much darker and richer tones. The turquoises, reds, yellows and monochrome shades were emphasised on evening wear and party dresses, mixing silk and lace in a rock-chick way that only Donatella Versace can muster up. Roberto Cavalli was also all about the drama and did everything with just a touch of fur. The collection was full of electric tones – deep blues, reds and raven black. There was just a touch of theatrics about the collection, which is why we all adore Cavalli’s work, and this season, he didn’t disappoint.

milan fashion weekDolce & Gabbana was easily my favourite show of Milan Fashion Week. Not only did the two designers have some beautiful couture designs, but also they added that little bit of fun and divilment to the collection with animal cartoons and sketches. Using deep colours, designs and fabrics, the geniuses behind Dolce & Gabbana created a collection that every woman can wear and would be proud to have in their wardrobe. The fun and flirty styles and patterns made this a very easy collection to re-create at home, and best of all it looks warm and comfortable. Pretty much ideal for the Irish winters, right?

milan fashion week

This Milan Fashion Week didn’t disappoint – it very rarely does. All designers involved seemed to up their game and present us with collections that were both ready-to-wear and extremely high fashion. The use of colours and fabrics made us look forward to getting back into those winter woollies again without having to compromise our fashion sense. Next is Paris Fashion Week…who else is looking forward to that gorgeous French fashion?

The Best Dressed of the Oscars 2014

Was anyone else a little bored last night watching the red carpet? I’ve been looking forward to the Oscars since the award season began, hoping for something a little fresh and different, yet last night handed me no great surprises in the style department. Those women who always dress well did so but there were no outfits that filled me with dread or anything noteworthy so I’ve decided to leave worst-dressed out of today’s post. There were too many dresses that just bored me! However, the night wasn’t completely lacking – there were a few fabulous gowns by some of the usual suspects and of course, some funny moments that make the Oscars so much fun to follow.

I have left a couple of people off this list that people have been raving about – Jennifer Lawrence and Kerry Washington – for obvious reasons, I didn’t like their style. J-Law wore a beautiful Dior dress (surprise surprise) and she looked lovely but I’m getting so bored of the same look from her all the time and was hoping for something different. Kerry Washington’s maternity style was a miss this time and made her look a lot bigger than she is – not the aim when you’re pregnant, I imagine! Nonetheless, I have compiled a list of my favourites so enjoy and don’t forget to tell me your favourites!

oscars 2014

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen, Charlize Theron in Dior, Amy Adams in Gucci and Julie Roberts in Givenchy

Many of the Oscar dresses looked exactly the same, using light and airy shades of cream. However these ladies stepped out of the mould and chose dresses that were darker. The style of the dress is quite similar, however the cuts and fabrics made each starlet stand out. Sandra Bullock really won this award season with her style, from that green Lanvin gown at the SAG Awards to the Prabal Gurung colour-block number at the Golden Globes. This Alexander McQueen dress was no different and gave her a regal air. Charlize Theron was rightly named one of the best-dressed of the night in this fantastic Dior gown. In past years, she has taken to wearing John Galliano but this works and flatters every curve. By now, you’ll probably know I don’t like Amy Adams – however, her style choices this year have impressed me and this Gucci makes her figure look sensational. She lost out on the Best Actress gong along with Sandra Bullock but both won major style points. This Givenchy gown is phenomenal on Julia Roberts, who was up for Best Supporting Actress, and definitely gave me some dress envy. The colour, cut, fabric; everything was working here and her simple up-do finished the look off perfectly.

oscars 2014

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive, Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace, Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra and Kristen Bell in Roberto Cavalli

There were so many similar dresses on the night, I found that the light-coloured dresses all blended into one. These ladies stood out for me because their style and confidence was just exceptional and there was something a little different about these gowns. Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett stunned in this elegant yet fun Armani Prive with floral embellishment. Her simple hairstyle and jewellery let the dress do the talking and it certainly did that! Kate Hudson looked phenomenal in this white Atelier Versace gown that flattered every curve and kept the critics talking about her. We all know Jenna Dewan-Tatum always has the best arm-candy in the form of Channing Tatum but this Reem Acra number let her stand out on her own and the dress is incredibly beautiful without being too much. Kristen Bell is always great entertainment and I love her and her husband Dax as a couple. Last night she impressed me in this fabulous Roberto Cavalli dress teamed with simple hair and make-up. Who’d have thought she just had a baby?

oscars 2014

Kristen Chenoweth in Roberto Cavalli and Emma Watson in Vera Wang

Metallics was a big trend on the red carpet this season but these are the only two metallic dresses I liked from the Oscars. Other A-Listers like Jessica Biel tried and – in my opinion – failed. Kristen Chenoweth looks gorgeous in this Roberto Cavalli gown (a popular designer this event) and managed to pull off metallic without looking like the Oscar statue. Her pixie cut and minimal jewellery gave this dress all the attention it needed – I wouldn’t have done anything different. I have so much love for Emma Watson and she cannot put a foot wrong when it comes to fashion. This Vera Wang is both classy and sexy, something that Emma seems to look for in a dress and always pulls it off!

oscars 2014

Lupita Nyong’o in Prada

The deserving Best Supporting Actress winner was also the best dressed on the night. Lupita Nyong’o has been the talk of Hollywood this award season – both as a breakout star and a style icon. This being her first film role hasn’t phased her in the slightest and she has eased into the red carpet lifestyle with ease. This Prada gown follows in a long line of amazing designer gowns that she has made her own and the colour is beautiful against her dark skin tone. I probably would’ve left the hairband at home though.

Here are some of my favourite moments from the selfie seen round the world to Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing all of U2. Moments like this make the Oscars go from stuffy award ceremony to a party with a serious amount of fun!

The Selfie Seen Round The World

anigif_enhanced-8583-1393824747-10

The most star-studded selfie you’ll ever see – tweeted by Ellen at the Oscars last night. This picture has now broken world records, being retweeted over two million times by last count! I want in on this!

These two presenting – because I want them to magically become a couple!

oscars 2014

Because Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing U2 was possibly the funniest thing ever!

oscars 2014

And more photo-bombing from the gorgeous Jared Leto who also won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.

oscars 2014

These two being extremely cute – adorable couple alert. Also the picture below with Lupita really made me laugh!

Gorgeous photos like this make the Oscars for me. These portraits were taken at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night by photographer Mark Seliger and captured the essence of the Oscars in his pop-up studio. Check out some of his fantastic photographs here and look at how beautiful Zooey Deschanel and Lupita Nyong’o are!

The SAG Awards: Fashion

I was going to write about the Critic’s Choice Awards during the week but sadly, the level of fashion was lacking, to say the least! A lot of A-list celebrities either don’t go or treated it as a relaxing event between the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, so although the style was nice, that’s the only word you could use for it! Last night saw the return of the SAG awards: the second big award ceremony of the season and another step closer to the Oscars for those nominated in their various categories. There was some incredible fashion from some of Hollywood’s biggest stars so I’ve selected my favourites and some of the styles we’ll be seeing this season. There were a lot of colour schemes reminiscent of the Golden Globes last week and we’re definitely seeing a pattern running through some of our favourite designers: monochromes, metallics and safe colours like navy and pale pink.

Black

sag awards

Sophie Turner in Dolce & Gabbana, Carice van Houten and Sophie McShera in David Meister

The casts of both Game of Thrones and Downtown Abbey were out in force last night and for the most part, they looked fantastic. Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner dazzled in a beautiful Dolce & Gabbana gown that complemented her pale complexion perfectly, while her co-star Carice van Houten looked great in a tea-length dress with back ruffle. Sophie McShera, who plays Daisy in Downton Abbey, was a real surprise on the night and looked great in a cut-out detail gown from David Meister.

White

sag awards

Maisie Williams, Natalie Dormer in Marios Schwab and Hannah Simone in Marchesa

Maisie Williams looked beyond her years in this gorgeous white gown; a far cry from the tomboy character Arya she plays in nominated drama Game of Thrones. Her co-star Natalie Dormer (who is in everything at the moment) was sporting a white Marios Schwab gown with mesh detailing and a new partially shaved head, which looks pretty unreal on her! New Girl‘s Hannah Simone looked fab in this ethereal Marchesa gown with flowered neck detailing. White has been a popular colour this award season so expect to see a lot of it in the weeks to come, especially at the Oscars.

Metallics

sag awards

Laura Carmichael in gold Vionnet, Jennifer Lawrence in Dior, Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan Atelier and Emilia Clarke in bronze Calvin Klein Collection

Once again the metallics were a huge trend on the red carpet, just like the Golden Globes last week. Laura Carmichael of Downton Abbey looked incredible again, this time delving into the world of metallics and wearing a delicate gold Vionnet gown, worthy of Lady Edith. I still think Jennifer Lawrence is lacking a little something in this gown (Dior, who else!) but she does look great so I’ll be kind! Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara wore another fitted dress – this time in Donna Karan Atelier – but this particular dress has critics divided over the fit of it – I will say, she looked phenomenal last week! Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke did her character Daenerys proud by sticking with metallics and showing off her stunning figure in bronze Calvin Klein Collection.

Navy

sag awards

Jennifer Garner in Max Mara, Kelly Osbourne in Jenny Packham, Anna Gunn in Monique Lhuillier, Morena Baccarin in Monique Lhuillier and Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi

Navy was a huge trend at the SAG awards so I’ve selected the ones I think shone out the most! Dallas Buyer’s Club actress Jennifer Garner looked gorgeous in a simple belted Max Mara navy dress and of course, husband Ben Affleck on her arm. Newly-single Kelly Osbourne was looking beautiful in Jenny Packham as she interviewed stars for E! and showed no sign of being upset over her engagement ending (fair play)! Nominated Breaking Bad actress Anna Gunn looked hot in Monique Lhuillier. Morena Baccarin of Homeland also looked stunning in Monique Lhuillier in her red carpet debut since giving birth 12 weeks ago. Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a huge fan of Amy Adams but I will readily admit she got it very right in this Antonio Berardi how last night. The deep blue colour made her pale complexion glow and she looked exceptional.

Pale Colours

SAG awards

Sarah Hyland in Pamella Roland, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting in Vera Wang and Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

I’m not a huge fan of the pale colours but these ladies did look lovely last night! Sarah Hyland from Modern Family went for a very different look than she usually does in a flowing pale pink Pamella Roland gown with very minimal make-up. Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting was a hit as usual with a fabulous dove grey Vera Wang dress that looked like it was made for her – absolutely amazing! We should also take note that finally she stayed away from the pink! Award winner Cate Blanchett wore a pale pink Givenchy dress. I’m not sure how I feel about the dress as a whole but Cate looks glowing and she was a winner on the night once again!

Bright Colours

sag awards

Sandra Bullock in Lanvin, Elisabeth Moss in Michael Kors, Camilla Alves in Donna Karan Atelier, Oprah Winfrey in Badgley Mischka and Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci

There weren’t that many bright colours on the SAG red carpet but when there were, it was VERY bright! Sandra Bullock looked fab in an emerald green Lanvin dress, definitely an improvement on the colour-block dress that divided critics last week. Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Moss looked amazing in bright red Michael Kors with matching lipstick and understated accessories. Winner Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camilla Alves showed off her assets in a chartreuse satin Donna Karan Atelier, showing us why the stunning Brazilian is a Victoria’s Secret favourite. Oprah Winfrey looked great in a deep purple Badgley Mischka dress to support her fellow cast members in The Butler. The woman of the moment and award-winner Lupita Nyong’o looked fabulous once again in turquoise Gucci and stole a spot as one of the best dressed of the night!

Fashion Misses

SAG awards

Ariel Winter in Badgley Mischka, Mariah Carey in Saint Laurent, Isla Fisher in Oscar de la Renta and Kerry Washington in Prada

There are always going to be a couple of misses when it comes to an event like this and some people got it just that little bit wrong. In theory, I love this Badgeley Mischka gown worn by Ariel Winter but there is just way too much cleavage here and it’s that bit too mature for the 15-year-old Modern Family star. Mariah Carey got it all VERY wrong with this Saint Laurent LBD with fishnets and looked like she was going to an 80s nightclub rather than a red carpet event. I love this Oscar de la Renta gown on Isla Fisher and she looked good in it but when looking at several different photos of it, it is glaringly obvious that this dress just doesn’t fit her. Maternity style came so well to newly-married Kerry Washington last week at the Golden Globes but this custom Prada ensemble just isn’t working for her…or her bump. It’s not evident that she is pregnant, it’s just an unflattering outfit and makes her look heavier than she is.

So with that being said, let the countdown begin to the Oscars!

Until then,

The Golden Globes 2014: Fashion Hits and Misses

It’s the start of award season again and one of my favourite times of the year for celebrity fashion (after the Met Gala of course). The Golden Globes are a breath of fresh air fashion-wise; everyone is in their stride getting ready for the SAG awards and the Oscars but it’s still the first award ceremony in the bunch so we’re not getting that celebrity ennui already! Last year was so tedious in terms of real style, the boredom of the colours and same cuts on every celebrity set in very quickly and we cried out for something a little bit different. Finally, we got it. The Golden Globes 2014 were full of daring and bold choices which made fashion lovers everywhere squeal with delight. I had my favourites of course so I’ve written down my favourites and what styles we’ve been seeing on some of the world’s most famous!

Bright Blues/Greens

Golden Globes

Caitlin Fitzgerald in Emilia Wickstead, Helen Mirren in Jenny Packham and Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein

Bold colours were a very big trend on the red carpet this year at the Golden Globes and these three ladies had some of the best style by far. Caitlin Fitzgerald’s Emilia Wickstead dress has been named by many companies as the dress of the night and she was definitely flying the British flag for fashion. Helen Mirren looked fabulous in Jenny Packham and the colours complemented her without looking too young for her. This seamless Calvin Klein gown looked beautiful on Reese Witherspoon teamed with Harry Winston jewellery and her haircut was extremely flattering.

Reds

golden globes

Emma Watson in Dior Couture, Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez

I do love a vibrant red; anyone that has looked at my lipstick collection could tell you that. However there were some fantastically stunning red outfits at the Golden Globes and these were three of my favourite! Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge Emma Watson fan and her style never fails to disappoint. This Dior Couture ensemble is genius, ensuring she is comfortable and warm in her trousers while still being ahead of trend and daring in the completely backless dress. Lupita Nyong’o caused waves with her Ralph Lauren dress with a futuristic style cape that is very en vogue. The colour of her dress complemented her complexion perfectly and gave her a great glow. Julia Louis-Dreyfus looked stunning in her Narciso Rodriguez gown and those arms, wow! You can tell how much work she’s done to look amazing in that dress and I applaud her for that!

Metallics

golden globes

Emilia Clarke in Proenza Schouler, Emma Thompson in vintage Lanvin, Kate Mara in J. Mendal, Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad and Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta

Emilia Clarke looked ever the goddess in Proenza Schouler and after watching her in Game of Thrones, I adore her original brunette colour! She accessorised that with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and a Baird & Baird clutch, not too shabby! Emma Thompson, despite having a dodgy blowout, was fabulous in gold and black metallic vintage Lanvin and her outfit wasn’t too young for her, which can be the trouble sometimes with older actresses at award ceremonies! This blonde is a gorgeous look on Kate Mara and the translucent sheen on her J. Mendal dress makes is look so expensive. Kate Beckinsale has been getting a lot of negative feedback on her dress but personally I think she looks so beautiful and the cut of the Zuhair Murad dress gives her an enviable hourglass figure. One of my favourite Downton Abbey actresses Michelle Dockery always seems to get her fashion choices spot on and this Oscar de la Renta gown is spot on. With simple accessories, this look compliments her figure and places her high on the style stakes.

Multi-Coloured

Golden Globes

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting in Rani Zakhem and Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung

Julie Bowen gets it right almost every time and this dress is no exception. The colour blocking on this Carolina Herrera is so flattering and the colours are a beautiful hue for her skin tone. The newly married Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting looked gorgeous in a vintage-looking floral Rani Zakhem gown with Jimmy Choo accessories. Her love for pink gowns is obvious by now but this gave a little bit of a different twist to her style. Another colour-blocking fashion choice was made by Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung. Again, this dress divided critics but Sandra looks beautiful and chose the right hairstyle for this outfit. This looks a sure sign that colour-blocking could be in this season!

Black

golden globes

Leslie Mann in Dolce & Gabbana, Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé and Emma Roberts in Lanvin

Black is always a good colour, especially for award ceremonies in January. It’s a flattering colour and all these women have chosen hourglass silhouettes to flatter their shapes further. Leslie Mann delighted the critics in her lace Dolce & Gabbana gown, proving that she will never age! Cate Blanchett, winner of ‘Best Actress’ award won our adoration for this Armani Privé dress teamed with some Chopard jewellery. Newly engaged Emma Roberts dazzled in a Lanvin fishtail gown.

Cream/White

Golden Globes

Laura Carmichael in Viktor & Rolf, Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta and Margot Robbie in Gucci

Cream and white is always a big trend coming into the Spring/Summer season but it’s surprising that these colours were worn so much in the cold weather. However these three ladies killed the pale trend and they were bold choices. Downton Abbey‘s Laura Carmichael looked gorgeous in a Viktor & Rolf column dress and that little monochrome detail gave it a bit of an edge. Zooey Deschanel’s Oscar de la Renta gown suited her like a dream and the New Girl star’s nude shoes and daisy manicure were gorgeous. Margot Robbie of nominated film The Wolf of Wall Street looked beautiful in her white Gucci gown with emerald detailing; it’s just a shame her hair was so manicured, looser would have been better!

Men

golden globes

Idris Elba, Chris Pine in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, Usher in Calvin Klein and Bradley Cooper in Tom Ford

These gentlemen were definitely the pick of the bunch when it come to looking sophisticated and dapper on the red carpet. With the lack of options for men for a black tie event, these actors stood out from the crowd and made their own bolder fashion titles. Hats off to Usher who’s plum Calvin Klein suit really stood out and nominee Idris Elba who went for a more casual look with no tie.

Pregnancy Fashion

golden globes

Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhuillier, Olivia Wilde in Gucci and Kerry Washington in Balenciaga

Pregnancy is big in Hollywood at the moment (I’m not joking) and we’re constantly watching to see what style these pregnant ladies are sporting. I’m not a huge fan of Barrymore’s dress in general but as a maternity outfit, this works. It’s vaguely reminiscent of Kim Kardashian’s Givenchy dress at the Met Gala but much more flattering! Olivia Wilde looks phenomenal in this green sparkly Gucci dress and it’s a dress that can be worn again when she has had her baby. Win win! Kerry Washington’s Balenciaga dress is extremely beautiful and the colour looks great on her. The pregnancy fashion has been in the public eye a lot more thanks to Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton and these ladies haven’t let the side down. Looking forward to seeing them at the SAG awards!

Fashion Misses

golden globes

Amy Adams in Valentino, Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Lena Dunham in Zac Posen and Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

Sometimes there are some fashion misses at these events and these are my picks. I know that it’s everyone’s opinion and a lot of people will love these dresses but I just can’t like them. I’m not a fan of Amy Adams at all but I find this Valentino dress really washes her out. The colour for me is all wrong and this wouldn’t be the first choice for a redhead; blue or green would be better. Heidi Klum’s Marchesa dress is alright but the choker and the frumpy haircut are just too much. This outfit makes her look much older than she is which is a real shame. Lena Dunham’s Zac Posen outfit has definitely divided people but I think it’s just that little bit too clingy and that little bit too yellow for my liking. Jennifer Lawrence can usually do no wrong in my eyes but this dress just looks like a cotton wool bud. She’s a slave for Dior but this particular gown does nothing for her.

Anyone else looking forward to the SAG awards? I can’t wait to watch all the glamour!

Until then,

The Met Ball 2013

The celebrities were out in drones last night to celebrate the start of fashion season at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Costume Institute Gala is always the most stunning event of the season and this year was no different. As usual there were some fantastic dresses, some horrendous creations and everything in between. The 2013 theme ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ gave the A-list the chance to spread their style wings and come up with something a little different. Therefore, I’ve decided to compile my thoughts on the best and worst dresses of the night. Let me know your thoughts and opinions too!

THE BEST:

I don’t think anyone else could pull this off but Gwen Stefani manages to look absolutely fabulous in a Maison Martin Margiela gown and Fred Leighton jewels on the red carpet. Many didn’t like this as the punk theme was Stefani’s time to shine but in my opinion, Gwen looks beautiful! Gavin Rossdale scrubs up nicely in his tartan suit too!

Emma Watson looks like an absolute babe in a Prabal Gurung cut out gown. This type of gown was popular on the night but the Perks of Being a Wallflower star looked edgy and chic while still giving it that touch of class! Those shoes really give it the finishing touch!

Although Jennifer Lawrence played it safe with yet another Dior dress, I still think this is one of her best looks and love the fine details on the dress. Lawrence paid attention to detail with this outfit, with spiky shoes and the headpiece giving the outfit that little punk edge it needed.

Blake Lively managed to stun everyone in her two-tone Gucci dress. This girl seems to never get it wrong. The only thing missing from this ensemble is her new man candy husband Ryan Reynolds!

As one of the few celebrities that really embraced the punk theme, white hair has never looked so good on anyone as it does on Nicole Richie! Wearing a Topshop white gown, she let her hair and make-up do the talking and created a funky but chic outfit.

Sienna Miller was another celebrity who kept the theme in mind and stole the show in a simple white Burberry gown, covered by a very heavily studded leather jacket and headband. The outfit was risky for an event like this but she really pulled it off, showing that Brit girls are a step ahead when it comes to punk!

To all the ‘Hatha-haters’ out there, this look will stop you in your tracks! Although I’m a fan of Anne Hathaway, I’m not always a fan of her style choices. However, this Valentino dress shows a new racy side to her and the bleach blonde hair is fantastic, giving her a real edge in the style stakes!

Nina Dobrev looks phenomenal in a custom-made sheer Monique Lhuillier gown with a difference! It fits her like a glove and the trousers under the gown is inspired without looking like a bad 90s outfit!

I always love Rita Ora’s style, no matter how out there it is but she excels in this Thakoon number! The white with gold is elegant but the cut gives it a little bit of edge. Teamed with her trademark red lips, this ensemble is one to remember!

Saving the best till last (in my opinion) and another stunning gown from Thakoon. New supermodel on the block Cara Delevingne is everywhere at the moment and she proved that she is truly the belle of the punk ball in this studded number. Not only does it scream punk but its elegant and a true winner in the style stakes!

THE WORST:

There are way too many of these to count. Some people just didn’t get the theme, others just dressed in the dark! In any case, these are my opinions on the worst outfits of the night

I don’t know why, and I’ve tried really hard to, but I can’t like this dress! I don’t know if the Anthony Vacarello number would look better on someone else or not but I can’t get on board with it! Sorry Gisele!

Religious imagery is best left out of these things in my opinion and it certainly doesn’t belong on a dress for the Met Ball. I don’t know what kind of punk Katy Perry was trying to portray but I think this Dolce & Gabbana dress made her look frumpy and ridiculous and don’t get me started on the crown!

I know she is the honorary chair for this year’s Costume Institute Gala committee but I really can’t stand this Givenchy dress. Elements of it are…ok, but altogether I just see a big mess of colours, cuts and patterns. It may have been salvaged if those gloves hadn’t gotten involved but although they match, they add to the madness that is this outfit!

With a Giles Deacon dress, Philip Treacy headpiece and Louis Vuitton boots, there is just WAAAY too much going on in this outfit. Separately, these pieces probably would have worked to adhere to the punk theme but together, they really hurt my eyes. Sarah Jessica Parker is a real style icon in her own right but this look doesn’t work for me!

With all the stories of an imminent breakdown in the Hollywood rumour mill, Miley Cyrus doesn’t help herself when she goes out looking like this! This Marc Jacobs fish net dress does nothing for her and the spiky hair is less punk and more insane asylum!

Apparently Kanye was ’embarrassed’ by Kim’s ensemble, and while he has no right telling her what to wear, I can kinda see why. This Givenchy dress is way too busy for someone with a baby bump and as Kim’s maternity style has been a bit hit and miss, she could have stunned us with a fab outfit. However that wasn’t the case and we’re left grimacing at this awkward style choice!

Ok, so I’ll start by saying that I love this Stella McCartney jumpsuit in theory. In practice, and on Kristen Stewart, not so much! The lines are lovely and this is a gorgeous colour, especially on Kristen. However the boxy shape around the hips and thighs make her look like a very fashionable hexagon and it just doesn’t work for me! Sorry Kristen!

I adore Coco Rocha but her Met Ball choice have been questionable the last two years. The pink and yellow suit/hair thing she was trying to do last year just didn’t work, and this Ungaro outfit is no better. The gold leaf design mixed with leopard skin is disastrous and the ankle boots make it ten times worse!

Credit: madonnaciccone.tumblr.com

Credit: madonnaciccone.tumblr.com

It would take Madonna to ruin a theme and ruin it, she did! Forget the fact that she is way too old to be dressing like this anyway, she took punk way too literally and I imagine Lourdes will be hiding with the shame until next year after seeing this picture! Someone needs to tell Madonna not to go next year!

So these are my opinions on the best and worst dress at the Met Ball in New York last night. There were far more that I both liked and disliked but these were the clear winners and losers for me. Plus, you don’t want me going on anymore! Let me know what your thoughts are on the Costume Institute Gala style!

How To Style Your Hair This Season

WHEN we enter a new fashion season, we always keep our eyes out for the latest fashion and beauty trends to keep our eyes on the style button. But the last thing we think of is the way we should wear our hair. Hair is one of the most striking elements of a catwalk show, photo-shoot or even a night out, so we’ve come up with the best styles for you to try and achieve this season!

Buns. Whether its high buns or low buns this season, buns have been seen on the catwalks from Diane von Furstenberg to Louis Vuitton. It can be petite like a ballerina bun or a big and bold statement, any bun will do! Keep the hair sleek at the front of your head with a side parting and using hairgrips to lock away those strays. If a simple knot isn’t your thing, try a multi-twist bun like at the Rick Owens catwalk show.

Centre-partings. Not just a hairstyle from Dynasty, centre-partings are now back with a bang. This season, straight lines and wet-look waves are all in style as shown by designers like Roberto Cavalli and Gucci. Think off-duty model and beach ready waves.

Braids, twists and plaits. Add a little princess glamour to a relaxed look by adding a cool double-twisted halo braid or for an easy look, tying back the two front sections of your hair and securing them with a pretty clip at the back of your head. This look was seen at Emilio Pucci, Fendi and Valentino.

Quiffs/Bouffants. Backcomb the hair at the roots and gently comb the front section back over the volumised locks before spraying into place for a classy, regal look, perfect for nights out. This was seen everywhere from Alexander McQueen to Anna Sui. The look isn’t about being sleek so this season, give your bouffant a windswept chic look.

Wavy hair. This means, leave the straighteners down. Sleek straight hair is out and those effortless beach babes waves are here, just listen to your rejoicing hair! Leave it to dry naturally for an easy look, spray your hands with hair spray and rub them through your hair for a tousled style. Burberry Prorsum and Chloe have both used this with neutral make-up for a high fashion look.

Last but not least: accessorise! It’s never been so cool to wear a hairband for that princess look or clips in backcombed hair for a bit of an edge! Everyone from Rodarte to Dolce and Gabbana is accessorizing hair and on the days you don’t want to make an effort, a hairband is the perfect thing to brighten up a dull outfit.

Get those hair ideas flowing and create some masterpieces with your hairstyle. Even if you’re just walking round campus doesn’t mean you can’t look like a supermodel!
